The UP Debate Society brought Take A Stand to Sorsogon City last October 2007. UPDS President Inna Gacad along with Bernard Joseph Guerrero and Richard Heydarian facilitated the 2-day debate seminar and workshop at the Sorsogon City Hall which was attended by 160 students and 20 teachers.
Students were taught the basics of debating in British Parliamentary format while their teachers were familiarized with adjudication methods. The seminar was followed by a workshop that involved exercises on extomporaneous speaking, setting up a debate and clashing a proposition. The fundamentals of argumentation, rebuttals, and case extensions were also covered.
UPDS will be back in Sorsogon in December to adjudicate their tournament.
